Let’s discuss table tennis rules
Hello , In this article we are trying to explain about table tennis rules. let’s read this article .
Table tennis
It is a world-popular ball sport that includes attack, confrontation and defense. The competition is divided into several types, including team, singles, doubles, mixed doubles, etc.
Serving and Guessing
Before the start of many formal games, players will be asked to ” guess the ball ” or ” flip a coin ” to decide which side will serve first. As the saying goes, whoever serves first has the upper hand. So which side serves first has a certain effect on the morale of the team.
Guess the ball
The referee holds the ball and switches the position of the ball between the left and right hands below the table. When the final position of the ball is determined, one of the players guesses the ball , choosing the left or right hand. After the selection, the referee raises both hands at the same time to show the position of the ball to the guessing party. If the guess is correct, the player can choose to serve first or choose the serving position, and the other player can choose the remaining unselected options.
Coin toss
The referee holds a coin and asks the two players to choose a side of the coin before tossing it . Finally, the referee tosses the coin and catches it. The side with the coin facing up will be the player who gets to choose the serve or position first, as above.
Rock-paper -scissors
Both sides use rock-paper-scissors to decide who serves first. It is more commonly used in casinos.
Scoring rules
Table tennis has 11 points per game. Players on each side take turns to serve two balls, and then exchange serve. Whoever reaches 11 points first wins the game and moves on to the next game. However, when the score between the two players reaches 10:10, a playoff is required, that is, each player on both sides takes turns to serve one ball until one side exceeds the other by two points to win.
Competition system
Generally, the competition is divided into three types: best of three games (preliminary), best of five games (rematch/semifinal), and best of seven games (final). In the deciding game, which is the last game after the score is 2-2 or 3-3, when one side wins 5 points, the players of both sides need to exchange places.
Singles
- In singles, the serving party can serve from any position on his or her table. There is no limit on the direction and landing point of the serve. In other words, as long as the ball bounces once on his or her table. Then passes the net and reaches the opponent’s table, the serve is successful.
- Re-serve: When serving, the ball bounces on your own table. Passes through the net, hits the net, and then falls to the opponent’s table. At this time, you need to serve again.
- Lost points on serve: When serving. If the ball bounces on your own table and hits the net but does not land on the opponent’s table, it is considered a lost point on serve.
Doubles
- Serving loss: In table tennis doubles, the serve starts from the right hand side of the server. Can only be served diagonally, that is, to the opponent’s right hand side. If it is served to the opponent’s left hand side, it is considered a serving loss.
- Points lost for catching the ball: Players on each side take turns catching the ball once. If a player fails to catch the ball or catches the ball twice in a row, he loses a point.
- Re-serve: If the serve reaches the opponent’s center line, you need to serve again.
- Position change: When one side serves twice, the two players of the original serving side need to exchange positions. The other player will receive the ball.
